Brett Gleason by Thomas Evans

FH favorite, musician Brett Gleason who I have profiled in the past just shot with New York photographer Thomas Evans. Evans, who is dubbed the “Photographer Extraordinaire” due to his attention to detail is known for embracing the dark side, the extreme and the bizarre? His work with Brett is not extreme but it does masterfully encompass the power and drama of Brett's music especially his #1 hit 'I Am Not'.

Speaking of 'I Am Not', the song spent 20 weeks on Logo's the click list including hitting the #1 spot (thanks to all from FH who voted!). The song has now been nominated for the Top 10 of 2010 and you can vote up to this Friday at 5pm. It's the seventh video down on the right, 'I Am Not'. Voting is unlimited and you don't need to fill out the form! Head over to LOGO and help Brett make the list!!!!

Favorite Song Of The Day: Remember to forget by Shane Mack

Last week I saw the beautiful film 'Shelter' (more on that on another day). I fell in love with the music from the film especially the haunting closing theme Remember to forget by Shane Mack. Give it a listen!

It's.....

Samuel Boux

Earlier this summer Photographer Chris Teel introduced me to model Samuel Boux. At first I was enchanted by his look and work in front of the camera. Quickly it became his music that took me over. I have written before that Samuel's songs have become a part my days. After my work day is done and the dogs are walked I like a few moments listening to Samuel to ease me from my day to whatever is going on in my evening. Thanks to Samuel for sharing not just your photo's, not just your music, but your story.

Samuel has a new song out this week "La Rivière qui Chante". Take a listen at REVERBNATION HERE:

Samuel on his music:
'I used to listen to Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and The Beatles on vinyl all day because there was no tv or computer for a while at my first house before my 3 moves.
Now i like Gypsy Kings, City and Colour (Dallas Green), Don Ross(acoustic guitarist). I like classical and ambient/trance music as well.
My dad has been playing for 40 years now, I also get that a bit from him, but he plays a completely different style mostly blues/rock.
I cannot read music, therefore when I record a song I will never play it again and instead compose a new one each time. I finger pick, never used a pick.'

Samuel Boux by Matt Kulisch

Samuel Boux by Matt Kulisch (October 2010)

Matt's work with Samuel parallels the feelings I get when listening to Sam's music, beautiful, soothing, peaceful and ethereal.

'Matt is a lyrical artist who has also a passion for photography, he keeps his photos real and simple, one of my favorite so far.'
Samuel Boux

'Working with Sam is a gratifying experience for a photographer! He brings the precision & attention that comes with career-mindedness, and also an inadvertent lucidity that invites art. In the end, when everything comes together, working with Sam just doesn't feel like work: it's fun & interesting, opening & natural, good & good & good.'

'I am interested in the articulation--through image--of Desire and Distance. As Sontag says, "all activities that...can be conducted from a distance, and with some detachment." I think art, especially photography, necessarily requires that distance.'
Matt Kulisch

Favorite Face Of The Day: Siri Khalsa

When I first saw a shot of Siri Khalsa it was the portrait by Christian Del Rosario (see below). I could instantly see there was an artist though his beautiful brown eyes. 27 year old Siri is a singer/songwriter whose goal for his band is 'Touring the world, Spreading the Love, Inspiring people to be the best they can possibly Be'. The California native also has a passion for yoga and as well as practicing the discipline is also a yoga teacher. My interest in Siri certainly was cemented when listening to his music. Not only an accomplished acoustic guitar player but a beautiful voice as well. You can listen to a song below or check out a variety of his songs at his MYSPACE Page HERE: My favorite track is Hit My Soul.

You can also join Siri's Facebook Fan page to listen to more music and see more shots HERE:

MOTIVATIONS

Really Lady Gaga....Really

I have never been a huge fan of The Gaga. Now like the rest of the world,I see her talent, love some of her songs, and see in her a unique and brilliant artist. I also see in her something that does not quite ring true. I think Gaga is often 'making it up' as she goes along, claiming it was all a well laid out plan. I think watching her this week you could think either she is a true original with all her costume changes and statements or you could think she is desperately trying to grab and hold onto attention and headlines at any cost.

Her 'meat dress' this week was a great example. The dress could have been quite powerful if Gaga had the ability to clearly articulate what message she was trying put out there. It might also have been powerful if she had let the dress speak for itself. Instead she made various statements, some contrary, some making no sense about the meaning behind the outfit. From what holds us down to freedom to 'don't ask don't tell'.

As much as I admire her intent, she is truly at risk of becoming a joke within the industry. The woman is smart no doubt but I fear she is not quite as smart as most initially gave her credit for. Gaga does not seem able to simply attend an award show, instead she demands she be the center of attention. On stage or walking through an airport she refuses to simply be, but instead is always forcing us to look, to react. This is beginning to get tiring, not just for the audience but also for Gaga who has had health issues connected to exhaustion.

It was not left unnoticed by many how she interacts with other iconic women such as Cher who presented one of her awards this week(above). Cher, in her sixties, is still drawing attention decade after decade. Cher knows when to go out, do her work and grab attention. Cher also knows when to back off, lay low and disappear for awhile. By doing this, her audience remains interested. Gaga...take heed!

'Looking Into Your Eyes' by Samuel Boux

FH readers will know I have posted several times over the past several months about the beauty and the talent of musician Samuel Boux. Samuel's music has become a part of my evenings and helps me transition from the stress of my day into the relaxation of my evenings. Samuel's newest song 'Looking Into Your Eyes' is a great addition to his ever growing catalog of songs.

Take a listen for yourself at Samuel's page at REVERBNATION HERE:

I need to thank again my friend photographer Chris Teel who was responsible for introducing me to Samuel and his music through his work with him. "I Am Not" by Brett Gleason

Photos of Brett by Nicolas Smith.

Over the past few weeks I have asked readers of FH you to head over to Logo and help Brett Gleason's 'I Am Not' make the click list. Brett's fans have helped 'I Am Not' the number two song for the past month. Lets all vote to help the song finally push to #1!!!! Please head on over to Logo HERE: and help 'I Am Not' make #1 this week! Today is the last day to vote!!! The video is the sixth one down on the left. There is a section to enter personal information but you don't need to do that-therefore, the number of times any one can vote is unlimited. O

'It's an internal conflict with a universal application: You cannot bury, hide or deny parts of yourself for they will come back to get you. 'I Am Not' is about proclaiming pride in what previously caused shame, accepting yourself and the inherent duality of existence.'

Catching up with Steven Jutzi

I have posted several times about Tucson model Steven Jutzi. Given the theme of FH is 'favorites' I have an odd curiosity about what the favorites are of those I profile and post about.

Steven says that Jamie Dominic is his favorite model (see more on Jamie below). 'He has an incredible body and he works hard for it - and he's passionate about everything he does'. Steven also puts Phil Fusco and Benjamin Godfre near the top of his list.

When I asked Steven what models or actors fill up the 'guy' folder on his computer, he replied that he shares his computer with other people and that he would be a little embarrassed if he had such a thing. 'I do save some images that inspire me - I have some physique shots of some of my favorite physique models - just to inspire me to want to improve my body. Which - I gained a little bit of weight recently that I'm now working off. In time!'

Steven lists his favorite photographers as Luis Rafael and Carlos Arias. 'I think with Luis Rafael I'd like to do some beach shoot, where I'm sweaty and oily and showing off my physique. With Carlos I'd be more creative and probably throw in some fake blood and some chains or something. He seems to be more edgier with concepts.'

Steven says that many things have inspire his work. 'I did one segment of a photo shoot with a photographer previously that was a boxing theme that was inspired by a shoot Madonna did with Tom Munro. It had a boxing theme as well.
What inspired me to be a model, was I had low self esteem, I had gone through a rough breakup, and I just wanted a medium to express my feelings. And as you can see in a lot of my work, I do express a lot of emotions.'

Steven says Re-invention. Constantly changing your style of posing, your physical appearance, working with different photographers is what keeps you fresh in the business. 'A lot of photographers have a cliche style, and diversity I really think is the key. If you are just going to be a physique model, people will get bored with you quickly.'

Steven just moved and switched jobs but says that he has lot of new and some fun ideas and his goal is to top the work he has already done!

Keeping up with Jamie Dominic

"I am just an honest musician out of Nashua New Hampshire. If I make it big awesome. If I don't that's awesome too. My main goal is to touch the hearts of a lot of people along whatever path I take.
I want to share my life experiences through my music with anyone and everyone. If you like me, great. If you don't like me that's fine too. I am what I am and I will never change for anybody."

-JAMIE DOMINIC-

I have posted several times before about musician and model Jamie Dominic (see previous posts HERE:). Although Jamie is still modeling, his main focus these days is getting the word out about his music and his group Motivations (see previous post HERE:)

As a model, Jamie possesses a fierce strength that has created some amazing and edgy images. Jamie is one of the nets most popular models and his work with some of best photographers in the business has led to an impressive portfolio. Jamie brings his strength, not to mention hard work and determination, to his music as well. In my previous profile on Motivations I said my favorite song was 'We Are Machines', but I think the bands most recently released Myspace single 'Save Your Life' has taken over that spot! Great song I encourage you all to take a listen to on the Bands Myspace page HERE:

MOtivations says:

'A name is more than a label and the name "Motivations" is a reflection of the continued bonds of friendship and the power of a shared dream among the band members. The dreams of man are his motive power - a driving force that shapes the world. Motivations wants to share theirs with you.'

This quote specifically impressed me as Motivation is certainly a theme within many of the bands songs. I recently asked Jamie a few questions about the band and his modeling.

Below: MOtivations band members Steve Langone, Pat Strawbridge, Dominic and Josh Kern.

FH:
With everyone working and busy schedules, how do you keep your friendships strong and how do you find the time to schedule rehearsal times and dates to play?

Jamie Dominic:
I'd say we are all best friends. We have been there through everything together. No matter how busy things get , no matter what comes our way this band is our heart. It's our drive and our MOTIVATION to live our lives. We make sure that time is made for this band. No matter what! We have the strongest friendship between all of us. There isn't anything we wouldn't do for one another. I personally would die for any of these guys as they would for me.

FH:
Given your band is called Motivations, what or who motivates you when things get rough or your down.

Jamie Dominic:
Life in general, personal experiences and just overall drive to succeed is what pushes us and is what motivates us to play what we play and write what we write. Just the simplicity of friendship and brotherhood between us as a band keeps us going!

Below:
The stunning images below by Tony Duran.

FH:
Given your success as a model, do you find that gets in the way of promoting the band or do you use it to your advantage?

Jamie Dominic:
I started modeling simply to get my face out there so that one day people can see what my REAL true love is. I took this road to meet new people and to get my foot in any door possible so that later on i can introduce my music to the world. So yes i use modeling to my advantage. Absolutely!

After you check out Jamie's music head over and be sure to join his fan page on Facebook HERE: Jamie regularly updates his fan page with tons of pictures and videos. Jamie also checks in almost daily with updates and news.

Thanks to Jamie and to Motivations!
