The announcement that the second oldest of her six daughters will tie the knot with NBA star Kris Humphries as early as next month has come with some unwelcome news for stage mom Kris Jenner. Kim Kardashian plans to change her surname when she marries Humphries, a move that Kris fears could have devastating effects on the lifestyle brand founded on the now-famous Kardashian name.
The Kardashians have styled themselves as a family brand – appearing together in their various E! reality series and pooling the cash earned thanks to their endorsement deals. Kris doesn’t want Kim to ditch her name after working so “hard” to turn it in to one recognized in households all over America.
“I don’t think she should take his name and be Kim Humphries,” the 55-year-old mother of six told PopEater.com this week. “I think she needs to be Kim Kardashian because she’s worked so hard to get where she is.”
Did it slip Kris’ mind that her other daughter, 26-year-old Khloe, has been going by Khloe Kardashian-Odom since marrying Los Angeles Laker Lamar in Sept. 2009?
Ever since Kim announced her engagement to Kris Humphries, mom Kris has been talking it up to the media. She’s already blabbed about asking Vera Wang about a dress and urged Kim to keep her hardearned name Kardashian rather than take her married name Humphries. Now Kris is dropping hints that since she is an ordained minister, she could be available to officiate the wedding!
“I’m actually an ordained minister,” Jenner added. “I knew it might come in handy one day but I’m not sure where Kim will want me on the day.”
Against her mother’s wishes, Kim Kardashian, 30, will be Kim Humphries before the fall, according to TMZ, which reports that the reality star will “for sure” take the basketballer’s surname after they walk down the aisle at their summer wedding.
And what a wedding it will be.
According to The New York Post, E! and Ryan Seacrest Productions are currently working out the best way to bring Kim and Kris’ wedding to the masses. It could possibly be weaved into the upcoming sixth season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, which premieres next month, or become a television special, similar to what producers did when Khloe and Lamar got married. There’s even talk of a spinoff.
“Kris Humphries might not have known what he was getting into. This wedding is going to happen very much in the public eye. And they will make millions off of it….The wedding is going to be at the end of July or the beginning of August. The reason they’re rushing it is because they want to do it before the basketball season starts again, so that they have time to have a romantic honeymoon! She wants it to be very traditional, huge and formal.”
